The amount of money spent on pork barrel projects -- special state or local projects tacked onto federal legislation -- has almost tripled over the past 10 years, according to figures from the Congressional Research Service.

You know me–I'm fearless. I'll bite.
I'm afraid pork spending, and earmarking, not only will continue, but are a fundamental guarantee of our Constitution. In fact, I'll go further. This activity is one of the five freedoms guaranteed in the First Amendment: the freedom to redress the government with our grievances.
The bigger question is: what's the least egregious manner to go about fulfilling this guarantee?
Sen. Robert Byrd is proud of his nickname, "King of Pork." And until we find a way to shame our legislators out of this habit, I don't see any end, any time soon.
